Job Corps is gone! – Now what?

Mr. Crim and I recently had a thought-provoking discussion about the closure of Job Corps and its implications for the future. We explored the history of the program, my personal involvement, and strategies to support those impacted by the closure, including former graduates. If you know of any resources or organizations in Will and Cook Counties that can provide job or career training, employment opportunities, or housing assistance, please fill out the Google form by clicking on the link below.

Bridging Summer Gaps: A Parent’s Guide To Strengthen Their Child’s Academic Resilience and Positive Behavior During The Break

Regression, in the context of education, refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge that often occurs during extended breaks, such as summer vacation. Research indicates that students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, tend to experience substantial regression in crucial subjects like math and reading over the summer months.

This interactive education and training session explores the concept of unconscious competence and its practical application in fostering children’s learning and development to combat summer learning loss. Parents will gain insight into the four stages of competence, highlighting the importance of recognizing and supporting their child’s journey.

By understanding how skills are developed and internalized, parents can adopt strategies that promote effective learning habits, enhance academic performance, and encourage positive behavioral patterns during the summer break.

🌟 Exciting news from Proteential at Providence Catholic High School! 🌟

Over the past two days, we’ve engaged with approximately 100 freshmen through visualization and meditation exercises. We dived deep into crucial topics like managing anxiety from academic and social pressures, balancing academics and sports, and navigating peer pressure. Our discussions also included the impact of high school grades on college aspirations and preparing for adulthood.

Last and certainly not least…

We emphasized the importance of focusing on emotional
intelligence, self-awareness, and social awareness in addition to the impact of high school grades on college aspirations and preparing for adulthood.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be back next week to continue supporting our students on their journeys! 💪
