Three Fold Organizational Communication

There are several impediments that stifle the expression of communication within an organization. It is important that employees know to how effectively communicate with fellow co-workers and managers. The key word here being “Effective”. We often lack communication disciplines because of our upbringing, culture and education. We all have endured past experiences which has shaped our perceptions of people and situations. These scenarios have nullified the purpose and effect of communication in the eyes of a people. The key to successful progressive communication is the ability to “Actively Listen.”

We get PAID to listen and when a message is received and understood, then and only then can the task and goal be accomplished. So it is important that we facilitate formal education in our listen activities and this is a form of “Higher Learning.” The implementation of improvement in communication is embedded in the identification of our strengths and weaknesses. We have access to many online programs and audio tutorials that will be of great assistance in our efforts to cultivate this art form. Communication is indeed an art form, something that has to be learned, nurtured and cultivated. The way we communicated back in the 90’s has evolved therefore we must evolve. The most successful individuals are great communicators, so if you purpose to be great in any particular arena you must become a student of communication. The ensuing threefold cord will keep your instrument of communication in right alignment and harmony within your organization and at home.

1. Perceptions: Our perceptions of people and past experiences better known as stereotypes and limitations cloud the message being transferred between one or more parties. We are to have an unbiased perspective of the information that is being articulated and not assume what the individual is going to say.

2. Position: Outside and inside distractions better known as internal and external noise are barriers in the reception and processing of information. We have to silent those internal voices first before we can intensely focus on the conversation at hand. Also, outside influences or MULTI -TASKING will thwart the transference of information. A high level of focus is a necessity in the consideration of the person and what he or she is trying to verbalize.

         Respect + Sincerity = An appreciative, compliant workforce.

3. Prognosis: We must raise the standard of our training and continual education programs. Most of us do not care to work on the areas of communication until a problem arises and even then we handle the immediate situation without looking toward the progression of the discipline – the root of the issue. The acknowledgement of the cause will lead to the identification of the effect. This circumstance will ultimately enhance the probability of success for an organization, industry and more importantly our economy.
